“Portage and Personhood” 2021,11”x 8 ½ “, Twenty-four-page Risograph Zine
This zine emerged from a series of visits to The Denison Museum’s archives, where encountering works from their collection unexpectedly revived memories from my own personal history. The artworks in the collection served as both a catalyst and a guide, offering an entry point into a deeper narrative. As I engaged with these pieces, certain formal qualities and recurring themes—ranging from the visceral to the symbolic—spoke directly to my own experiences, unearthing dormant reflections and emotions.
Creating this memoir was an intimate process, one that required vulnerability and introspection. It became not only a means of personal exploration but also an opportunity to engage with broader themes of class, gender, identity, and lineage. Through this work, I sought to weave together the past and present, creating a space where art and memory intersect, inviting reflection on how our histories shape and define us.
